Tell us about yourself!
I would describe myself as a dreamer. But I also like to think that I am pretty realistic about what can be achieved. I love fashion and styling; and I’m obsessed with finding the perfect outfit for every occasion. Every detail is like a little mental jigsaw puzzle for me.
When I’m not styling, you will most likely find me in the kitchen. Cooking relaxes me and I love planning and arranging events; dinners and parties etc for my friends and family.
What’s your happy place?
I have so many happy places. Mostly wherever my husband and daughter are. But if I was to choose a solitary moment of happiness, it would be in the water. I love swimming. I once heard swimming described as physical meditation and I can really relate to that.
What’s your relationship to skincare been like?
Arbitrary. My early 20’s were soap and water. I improved from there to proper facewash, but could never bring myself to use moisturiser, it always felt too heavy on my skin. To date, I haven’t really had a reliable routine, but as I get older, I see that I can no longer get away with it. It’s debatable that I ever could!
What are your favourite Sothys products right now?
I love the Sothys Glysalac Skin Preparer, the Desqua Forte Microderm and the Lactic Dermabooster Serum. I found all three easy to adapt to, as they all have a beautiful light texture, and I can actually see and feel them working.
What three words would you use to describe yourself?
I’m sorry to tell you but I cheated and asked my three sisters to help me; they have suggested; bossy (I think they mean I’m the oldest), generous, empathetic.
Tell us where abouts do you live and what you love about it?
I live on Auckland’s North Shore. There is a wee bay around the corner from us, which provides the most beautiful sunsets in the evenings, and at the end of our own street is a Kauri forest. Those huge old trees, creaking and swaying in the breeze are so peaceful. I love the city and all that it has to offer, but I feel very lucky to have this peaceful pocket to call my own.
What’s the most treasured piece in your wardrobe?
My most treasured pieces are both accessories and are both from Dean. For my 30th Birthday, he bought me some diamond stud earrings, I felt so unbelievably spoiled. Then for my 40th Birthday he bought me a Louis Vuitton Neverfull bag. Both of these things mean so much more to me, because they are from him. And importantly, they are very classic things that stand the test of time and will stay in my wardrobe forever.
What’s your favourite film or TV series?
One of my favourite films is Out of Africa, it makes me so homesick for Africa, I nearly always end up in tears when I watch it!
How would you describe your sense of style?
Classic, colourful and playful.
What does chic mean to you?
Chic to me is the appearance of effortless style. It’s about striking the exact balance between being boring and too busy.
What do you do to unwind at the end of the day?
Not every day, but I do love to pour a glass of wine and put on some Fleetwood Mac while I make dinner.
What food and wine could you eat and drink a never ending supply of?
Now this is my kind of question! My favourite meal is probably a medium rare sirloin and Greek salad. My favourite wine is a bit harder to choose, I was a Sauvignon Blanc girl for many years, but I have branched out a bit these days and am enjoying Albarinio and Verdicchio at the moment — basically I love a crisp white wine.
If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would that go and why?
To Cape Town in South Africa. I was born there and moved to New Zealand when I was 16. I’m so lucky that Dean and my daughter love it there too. It has lots of problems of course, but it is so beautiful too. When the plane touches down in Cape Town and I see Table Mountain I will cry my eyes out, happy tears of course!
